# Getting Started with ARM Servers

ARM servers run on efficient arm64 cores and give you the best price per core. They suit modern software that ships arm64 builds, such as most current runtimes, databases and container images.

## What an ARM Server Is

An ARM server is a virtual machine with its own operating system, its own IP addresses and full root access, built on arm64 processors instead of x86. For the same money you get more cores and memory than a Standard server.

The catch is compatibility. Software must have an arm64 build to run. We do not emulate x86 on ARM, so a program that only ships for x86 will not start. Most popular stacks are fine, including Node.js, Python, Go, PHP, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis and most Docker images. If you are not sure, read [Choosing a Cloud Server Architecture](https://support.kapsulehost.com/en-nz/cloud-servers-choosing-architecture) before you order.

In KPanel, ARM servers live in the **ARM Cores** section of the sidebar.

## Sizes

| Size | vCPU | RAM | Disk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photon | 2 | 4 GB | 40 GB |
| Quark | 4 | 8 GB | 80 GB |
| Lepton | 8 | 16 GB | 160 GB |
| Muon | 16 | 32 GB | 320 GB |

If a price is missing here, see the price on the server's page or on our [pricing page](https://kapsulehost.com/en-nz/pricing). Every size includes unlimited traffic.

ARM sizes cost the same per month whether you pay monthly, for 12 months or for 24 months. There is no discount for a longer term, so monthly keeps you most flexible.

## Where They Run

ARM servers run in Germany and Finland. ARM capacity is limited, so a size can sell out for a while. When it does, the order screen shows it as not available in that location.

## Operating Systems

ARM servers run **Ubuntu 24.04 LTS**, **Ubuntu 22.04 LTS** or **Debian 12**. Windows Server, cPanel and Plesk are not offered on ARM.

## Ordering Your First ARM Server

1. Choose a size on our website, or in KPanel open **ARM Cores** and click **Create Server**. **ARM Cores** shows in the sidebar once your account has an ARM server, so for your first one, choose the size on our website. If you are signed in, you go straight to the order in KPanel.
2. Choose a location, a size, a term and a system, then tick your SSH key and name the server.
3. Review your choices and click **Add to Cart**, then pay at checkout.

[Creating a Server](https://support.kapsulehost.com/en-nz/cloud-servers-create) covers each step.

> **Note:** You cannot resize an ARM server into a Standard or Dedicated one later, because the processor type is different. If you might need x86 software, choose Standard or Dedicated from the start.
